Surgery down, Prognosis to go
Ok, Hi every one…thanks for all the support, e-mails, and phone calls. You guys are the best. A little tired this morning. Surgery yesterday went well. The doctors and nurses at Strong surgery and at the Wilmot Cancer Center are terrific. I never thought surgery could take so much out of you. I’m usually rip-raring to go and I have to tell you, I’m exhausted. The good news is that Dr. Skinner got the lump out with surrounding tissue and a piece of the lymph node. I will know next Wed at post-op whether or not the cancer has spread. We are hoping it hasn’t
Now, how about the little sockies they give you to wear into surgery…cute..love those things and they let me go home with them…yay..a souvenior. The lady who gave me an IV novocained me up a little. I’m never good with needles in my hands…she was good though..I have a deep respect for those people who can give shots and stuff and do it well. Man is it cold in the surgery room….I guess they need to make sure the surgeon doesn’t get hot and start to sweat….I wonder if Dr. Skinner had someone to wipe her brow while she operated.
What a smart woman..and her surgery team..really great people with terrific personalities. I was in surgery for an hour….but it seemed like just 1 minute. Anesthesia does strange things to your perception of time.
Ok, I think I am going to go lie down for a while…I’ll chekc back in with you guys tomorrow

Good luck Kimberly.
I was diagnosed about a month & a half ago with Melanoma (skin cancer). I just had my first baby 3 months ago - so this was quite a shock. I had a second surgery last Monday at Roswell in Buffalo to remove more of the area around the tumor and a few lymph nodes as well. The waiting for the results is the hardest, we’re hoping to know if it has spread or not with in the next week or so. Best of luck to you. I will keep you in my prayers. Gotta go take care of my beautiful baby girl - she’s waking up from her nap.

Sounds like you are doing great, Kimberly!! It always takes me 2 or 3 days to get over general anesthesia, and I have had plenty of experience to know the routine. My last operation was my 20th, you would think that it would have been a freebie, but they never did give me a punch card.
Here’s wishing you a speedy recovery!
Remember what doesn’t kill you, will make you stronger!!

Whew, first hurdle cleared. Glad that part is over. Next hurdle, post op next week. Kimberly, you’re tough; with the help of friends and family, you’ll get through this bump in the road. After all, having Beck without Kimberly is like mac and cheese without the Velveeta, just doesn’t taste the same! Hurry back. Love ya and miss ya on air!

Hey Kimberly-
Wishing you a quick recovery. Get your rest and keep pushing on. You will get past this! I scheduled my annual mammogram today. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am sure it will help so many others to get checked out.

Kimberly, glad you’re feeling better. As a nurse that takes care of many post-op patients, I can tell you that the breast scar will lighten over time as eventually will just be a very thin line and will blend into your breast. Also, the constitation problem is most likely from the vicoden, not the anesthesia. All the narcotic pain pills pills are VERY constipating. As I tell all my patients, be prepared to take fiber or stool softeners if things aren’t moving within a day or two. Best of luck in your recovery, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
