Minimum wage powerheads
We all know them. We, unfortunately come into conteact with them every day. People who make minimum wage (if that) but act as if they are better than you, smarter then you, and make more than the 4 bucks an hour they are alloted. I came into contact with one such individual yesterday at Blockbuster video. A place I will never ever go back to even though I ususally went there at least once or twice a month to rent videos. I took Chloe to Blockbuster and we were going to rent a couple of movies as I am not really able to do much else after surgery. We selected 4 movies and went to the counter. The girl at the counter then proceeded to tell us we didn’t have a subscription there and I must have mistaken. Ummmm I have been renting at that Blockbuster since we moved to Rochester in 2001….but she insisted she was right. Finally, I found an old card and she looked us up from the old card. But, that is not the end of the pissy girl story at Blockbuster. She then told me I couldn’t rent out 4 movies until I gave her a new credit card number…just for them to have on file you see. Ummm, again, I told her I just rented out movies two weeks ago and it wasn’t mentioned then., By the way, I don’t turn in movies late or keep movies and NEVER return them, I even used to rewind..so I’m not a bad customer. She then told me “sorry” no movies unless you provide a new credit card.
I said “no thank you! You just lost yourselves a customer” and walked out. At what point in time did it become ok for a business to harrass and make a customer feel stupid. Do you think this girl thought she was doing the company a favor? Horrible customer service and horrible attitude. I went right down to Wegmans and rented out 4 videos. I will be going there from now on.

Gee I wonder why Blockbuster is having financial trouble.. Hmmmmm Customer service is sorely lacking in many places.

Hey Blondie, first and foremost hope your recovery is going well. When i hear them speaking of your blog i thought i was going to see how you were feeling? but thats ok.. you obviously have taken your frustrations out on some minimum wage person. I have a question?, do you think that minimum wage person could feel the tension of you treating her lower than yourself and just ran with it maybe? I don’t know. When reading this the first sentence automatically categorizes everyone who makes minimum wage as someone who isn’t adequate. could be that you were putting off some bad vibes or something and she picked up on them. *shrugs* Do you think that by you stating that your not going back to that store again is kinda like the listener who says .. thats it Im changing the channel? Its the same thing..anyways I dont want to sound like a whiner but maybe just a different take on things..Hope your feeling well soon.(hugs)
Sincerly, Robyn

I’ve had issues at Blockbuster as well. In fact many of my friends have also and we all refuse to go there anymore. There are better options. I’m not sure how but many places have forgotten that customer experience while in the store is more important than the products within it. You can get the same movies at any rental place - but the one that treats you the best is the one you will go to. Same with any retail store and even for restaurants.
I’m proud of you for walking out - if more people would do that they’d *have* to change how they treat the customer!

EVERY time I have gone to Blockbuster I have had experiences like that. It’s like they find the bitchest, white trashiest, little teenages to work there. I stopped going there a year and a half ago and haven’t missed it once! Go to Wegmans…way better service!

Good for you Kimberly! Standing up for customers’ rights being free to take your business elsewhere if you’re not satisfied! How about also sending or calling in a complaint to Blockbuter and tell them of your not so pleasant experience. May be teach that girl a lesson in humility, not to be rude and demeaning to customers and she gets fired.

Maybe the girl thought you had a bitchy pompous attitude and gave it back to you ? Just a thought.

I just sent the link to this page to their corp email. Let’s see if they even care, or if they just suck all the time. I had the same problem in the Webster store. No longer a customer…

You probably didn’t portray yourself very well by suggesting that people’s worth is measured by their income. I make more money than you, ergo I’m better than you. But I understand the frustration with cashiers with attitudes. I stopped going to Blockbusters years ago when I had it with their return policy. Get a bad DVD home and it doesn’t work, they won’t refund your money, won’t give you anything complimentary for your troubles. Nope, you can rent another movie. Gee thanks and See Ya. No wonder they’re going bankrupt. I suggest Netflix. My whole family uses it and we’re very pleased.

I realize you are speaking specifically about this person, but easy on the minimum wage earners! America couldn’t make it without them/us. I have two jobs and it is amazing to see the difference in how I am treated, just in basic human decency, in my regular job versus my part time one. In so many cases, it is the worker getting crapped on by customers who think they are better because they’re on the other side of the counter. I have a ridiculous amount of stories involving that, but I’ll go get my own blog
Many happy thoughts for a speedy recovery!

Hah, this is funny. I wonder how many people have read your blog and have decided to boycott Blockbuster as well, whether it be the same location or not. I bet the “counter girl” thought she was just losing ONE customer. It would be interesting to find out. GOOD Customer Service is worth its weight in gold.

Key Kim-I fortunately haven’t had a problem yet w/ Blockbuster-but I believe it is store policy to have a valid cc # on file just in case movie or game wasn’t returned.I always keep the movies/games 6 days past due date(no late fees).Wegmans is not an option for me-closest one is Brockport 20+ miles away.Did you ever try Blockbuster online?I have it and it’s great.I’m afraid that’s how this generation is Kim-I don’t foresee these young brats nowadays supporting us when WE retire-keep up w/ the good recovery from all your problems-hopefully you will get some good karma soon!!!!

I Listen to your show every morning. You guys rock!! Kimberly I wish you the best of luck with your cancer and tumors..talk about rotten luck. In response to the blockbuster ordeal. I am in customer service and can say that customers tend to get ornery at times. She most likely went about the companies policies the wrong way and was trying to do her job. Customer service at Blockbuster sucks in general. I had a similiar situation and was told by the store manager it is company policy to update a customers credit card poilicy yearly. They started doing it supposedly when they were forced to get rid of late fees. This is why I no longer use blockbuster. I either go redbox..or use other means. The internet and computers are an amazing thing.

Kimberly, Rent at the library. Its free and you can see any movie you want. If you want a new release sometimes you can put a hold and pay 50cents. I have never been back to Blockbuster because of that too.

speaking of Minimum wage powerheads, pep boys in henrietta is full of those clowns too!!(yes i mean you paul g.)
word to the public: i wouldn’t let them change a spark plug in my mower let alone work on my car!!they are the most mickey mouse out of all mickey mouse parts store(autozone and advance being the other two!)

Hey Kimberly,
Mimimum wage is $6.55 an hour and their computer systems require a new cc # every few years to maintain membership. Don’t be shocked when Wegmans asks you too!
